Abstract:
This demo will illustrate a prototype of the MathFind search engine, a
math-aware search engine under development by Design Science. Users can
use mathematical expressions as query terms along with the usual text
query terms. Math search terms are entered via a graphical equation
editor applet. Ranked results are returned, with the rank for math
expressions based on structural similarity. In addition to document
summaries, users can see the best matching math expression by mousing
over entriesin the results list. All content may be viewed from a cache
in XHTML + MathML format in MathML capable browsers, or as XHTML +
images otherwise. The MathFind engine is implemented as an extension to
the popular Apache Lucene search engine. Content is converted to a
common XHTML + MathML format for indexing.
